EU AI CONTENT LABELS
====================

These are the European Commission's official icons for labelling AI-generated content. They are
included with your export so you have them to hand if you need them. Using them is optional.

WHY YOU MIGHT NEED ONE
----------------------
From 2 August 2026, Article 50(4) of the EU AI Act puts a labelling duty on the PERSON PUBLISHING
AI-generated or AI-modified content, in particular deepfakes and text on matters of public interest.
That duty is yours, not ours, because you decide what to publish and where. Shotline's own duty is a
separate one: writing a machine-readable mark into the file, which happens automatically and is
invisible.

Whether the duty applies to you depends on what you made and where you publish it. Private,
non-professional use is treated differently from publication. If you are unsure, ask a lawyer, not
us.

WHICH ICON
----------
  ai-generated-*.svg   Fully AI-Generated
                       The whole thing was made by AI, with no human-created elements and no human
                       editorial control beyond prompting. A pure text-to-image or text-to-video
                       render is usually this.

  ai-modified-*.svg    Partially AI-Modified
                       Pre-existing human-made content was partly changed by AI. If you fed in your
                       own photo, footage or artwork and the model altered it, this is usually the
                       honest one.

  ai-basic-*.svg       Basic
                       AI was involved, and you are pairing the icon with your own text label or an
                       interactive second layer explaining what was done.

We deliberately do not pick for you. A project usually contains both kinds of shot, and only you
know which parts started from something human. Choosing the wrong one is worse than choosing late.

The Commission's own user testing found the icons work better when paired with a short text label,
for example "AI-modified", rather than used alone.

COLOURS
-------
Each variant comes in black, white, and both at 50 percent transparency (the -50 files), so one of
them will sit legibly on whatever you are publishing.

TERMS
-----
The icons are published by the European Commission and are free for anyone to use, with no
attribution required. Two things worth knowing, both stated by the Commission itself:

  1. Using these icons does not by itself make you legally compliant. They are a labelling aid, not
     a certification.

  2. Shotline is not a signatory to the EU Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content.
     The fact that we include these icons is not, and must not be read as, a claim that we or you
     adhere to that Code.
